The rise of hot food delivery

Refrigeration experts offer duo of hot holding solutions.

Hot food delivery is changing. There has been a rapid rise in hot food deliveries from establishments that wouldn’t typically get involved in the ‘takeaway’ scene.

From local restaurants and cafes to high end, luxury bistros and even hotels, offering a takeaway menu has been an opportunity to drum up trade in the current challenging economic conditions.

This growing trend has resulted in the need to store hot food.

In order to maintain a kitchen-like-service, but from the pass to a consumer’s front door instead of a traditional in-house setting, there must be an effective storage solution to keep food hot and service fast.

While Williams Refrigeration is best known for its commercial fridges, freezers and coolers, turning the temperature up is also an area the brand has special expertise in too.

The Williams solution? The Scarlet Heated Multideck and the Mobile Heated Cabinet.

The Scarlet Heated Multideck is designed to deliver an attractive display that will help maximise grab & go merchandising sales – all while keeping food hot.

As well as being used for grab and go sales, heated merchandisers like the Scarlet can be repurposed as hot hold units to keep meals safe until delivery staff or customers are ready to collect the food.

Scarlet is available in three models, the XS70 slimline, XS100, and XS125, all featuring infra-red quartz halogen lamps that deliver consistent, reliable and safe heat.

The heat is instant and uniform, keeping food not only hot and safe, but also in prime condition at just the right temperature.

In addition, the Scarlet will maintain the ideal holding temperature of 65°C – 70°C for pre-cooked hot foods over three tilted shelves and the interior base – each of which has its own, individually controlled temperature setting, which can be set to match the requirements of different food types.

The Scarlet is an ideal grab & go front-of-house unit or hot holding multideck for speed of service.

Onto the Mobile Heated Cabinet, which is designed to safely store and transport food away from the kitchen, as well as providing an ideal storage space when awaiting for delivery/pickup. It is available in two models, the 390 litre MHC10 and the 549 litre MHC16, both of which feature in-built, easy grab side handles for maneuverability and all round bumper bars for added protection during transit.

Not only does this mean the cabinet can be transported away from the kitchen if space is limited, but it also assists hygiene measures as it avoids person-to-person contact when transferring food ready for delivery. The MHCs provide ideal storage cabinets for hot-holding packaged food and delivery orders.

The Mobile Heated Cabinets utilise fast warm-up technology that brings them up to operating temperature safely, quickly and efficiently.

The shift in hot food delivery is most certainly moving up a gear. With takeaways remaining one of the most popular forms of dining in the UK, worth £8.5 billion in 2019, it is estimated that customers using online food delivery will reach 11 million by the end of 2020.

As more sites continue to embrace this new world of foodservice, the need for the right equipment is ever greater.

Williams are experts in refrigeration and also packs a punch when keeping food hot.
